EFB Challenging Weather Finder is a Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 EFB application designed to help users quickly find airports experiencing challenging weather conditions using weather data provided directly by the simulator.
Features
- Search for challenging weather by geographical zone, including Europe, North America, South America, Africa, the Middle East, Asia, and Oceania.

Crosswind
- Dedicated Crosswind search evaluates the reported wind against available airport runways.
- Airports are ranked according to the calculated crosswind component.
- Wind speed and gust information is automatically normalized to knots where required.
- Variable winds are evaluated using the maximum possible 90-degree crosswind component.
- Runway information helps users quickly identify suitable airports for challenging crosswind approaches and landings.
Nearby Airports
- Selecting a result can display nearby airports using the same METAR weather source.
- This can reveal smaller airports without their own weather station that are using the same simulator weather report as the selected airport.
- Nearby airport information includes distance, bearing, METAR data, observation age, and longest runway information where available.
- Useful for discovering alternative airports in the same weather area, including smaller fields with more demanding runway conditions.
Flight Planning
- Selected airports can be sent directly to the Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 EFB Flight Planner as the departure or destination airport.
- This allows users to find challenging weather first and then quickly prepare a flight to the selected location.
In-Flight Weather
- A dedicated In-Flight Nearby Airport Weather mode displays nearby airports and current simulator weather while flying.
- Selectable search ranges allow users to control how far around the aircraft the app searches.
- Automatic weather scanning can be enabled during flight, with manual Refresh available when required.
- Weather scan time and individual METAR observation age help users evaluate how recently the displayed information was retrieved and reported.
Performance and purpose

- Weather information is obtained from Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024. The application does not generate weather and does not use an external weather service.
The Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 EFB supports both vertical and horizontal orientations, as well as small, medium, and large EFB display sizes. EFB Challenging Weather Finder fully supports all of these EFB configurations. Its interface was designed using clean, focused layouts to keep weather information readable, responsive, and efficient across every EFB size and orientation.
